Alistair Kelman is a Director of Telepathic Industries. which holds the rights in his computer security patent application "DataFreeze" and promotes his ideas on "smart communities". Under December 2000 he was ecommerce counsel for the enformatica group of companies (www.enformatica.com). He is also a Visiting Fellow at the LSE Computer Security Research Centre. He has an engineering degree and is a computer specialist as well as a barrister. From 1977 until 2000 he was in continuous practice at the English Bar specialising in cases involving computers which originally involved him in software copyright disputes and in dealing with disputes when computer systems did not work properly. However he quickly also became involved in criminal computing matters and successfully defended many young people in a variety of cases. In 1979 he drafted a Bill for introduction in the House of Commons to give express copyright protection for computer software. This failed to attract sufficient UK Parliamentary support. Six years later the House passed similar retroactive legislation.
Kelman also provides advice and consultancy through Entreprise LSE, the commmercial wing of the London School of Economics where he continues working with their team of experts.. He is a founder director of FASTclear Limited, a company specially established to fund and develop Kelman's ecommerce international patent applications in the field of taxation and consumer protection.
